Exciting Summer For Eau Claire Children's Theatre
Tuesday 06-26-2007 9:34am CT
This morning we talked with Wayne Marek, Executive Director with the Eau Claire Children's Theatre. There's a lot going on with ECCT this summer. First of all, they are moving into a brand new building (on Oxford Avenue) which will provide much more space for them. You can help out with the cleaning and remodeling projects. They need lots of volunteers. Call ECCT at 839-8877 for more info. They also have a fundraiser coming up Thursday night, June 28th at Action City. Twenty dollars will buy you UNLIMITED PLAY for the evening at Action City. Take the whole family out for an evening of fun and help raise dollars for the Eau Claire Childrens Theatre...and make sure to go and see their two big shows this summer, The Wizard Of Oz and High School Musical. Both shows will be performed at The State Theatre. For more info call 839-8877 or check out their website....www.ecct.org
Did That Really Happened?

I can't believe it actually happened. I'm not sure if it had anything to do with our petition ( see the blog below) but Pan's Labyrinth opened last week at Grengs London Stadium. I had been waiting almost a year to see this very special film. Guillermo Del Toro's melding of fantasy and the harsh world of war torn Spain is such a powerful film that it will stick with you for days after seeing it. The 12 year-old actress that plays Ofelia is phenomenal, and should be recognized for what she did with this role. Which reminds me of why it is exactly that I no longer pay any attention to the Oscars or the Golden Globes. It's because they don't really recognize the best in cinema. The example I always use, the year Ellen Burstyn lost to Julia Roberts. If you saw Ellen's performance in Requiem For A Dream you'll remember that she was much better than Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovitch. I'm sorry...but it's true. Anyhow, Pan's Labyrinth gets my vote for the Best Film of the year. Up until I saw Pan's, I had favored Children Of Men...but now I have to say that I have a new favorite film. If you agree with me, please send Grengs London Stadium an e-mail letting them know what a spectacular service they have provided for us. This really is a special film and I thank Gary and the gang at Grengs for making it possible. Now I suppose I'll start that petition for David Lynch's Inland Empire.

I talked about this with Tess on the air during our Morning Show. Kudos have to go out to Grengs London Stadium. Over the past few years, they've done an admirable job bringing a lot of smaller films to the Chippewa Valley. They include: Sideways and An Inconvenient Truth.
Grengs is also bringing the latest Christopher Guest film, For Your Consideration to the Chippewa Valley. Thank you Grengs for enabalizing us film geeks.
Now here is my personal plea: ''Please keep up the good work and bring Pan's Labyrinth to town''. The film is to be officially released on December 29th. Instead of driving to Minneapolis, it would be great if we could just drive over to Grengs London Stadium to see another film that isn't of the usual Hollywood type.
